This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in taupe over black leather. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, power steering, a Kenwood head unit, and 14″ steel wheels with painted covers. Service in 2026 involved rebuilding the fuel pump and replacing a brake line. This W113 SL was acquired by the current owner, an Illinois retail dealer, in 2020 and is now offered on their behalf by the seller with the owner’s manual, service records, and an Illinois title.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was repainted in taupe with black pinstripes under prior ownership and features a black soft top, a retractable antenna, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights. The trunk floor was replaced in 2018. The seller notes an area of corrosion just above the tail pipe and evidence of a patch panel repair just behind the left-rear wheel, both of which are depicted in the gallery. Paint correction was performed in August 2026, and the photos of the car with the matching removable hardtop were taken before this service was completed.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with Michelin MX4 tires measuring 195/75. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The left rear brake line was replaced and the fluid was flushed in August 2026.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in black leather that extends to the door panels, and a Kenwood head unit located inside the glovebox is linked to speakers mounted behind the seats. The Becker AM/FM radio and air conditioning system do not work.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a lace-up cover and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 31k miles. An estimated 11k miles were driven during the three decades of prior ownership, and approximately 150 miles have been accrued since February 2020.

The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new. Work in July 2026 consisted of an oil change, fuel system service, and fluid top-off. The fuel pump was rebuilt the following month. Various leaks are noted.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The shift linkage was repaired in 2026.

Service records dating back to the 1990s accompany the vehicle.

The Illinois title lists “Mileage Not Required” under the legends section.
