This 2001 Ford Puma is a right-hand-drive example that was first registered in the UK in March 2001 and later converted into a race car. The car is finished in silver with a black, white, and yellow vinyl wrap and is fitted with an adjustable front splitter and rear wing. It rides on BBS multi-piece wheels and is equipped with Mondeo ST220-sourced front disc brakes, while power is from a 1.7-liter VCT inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Inside, the stripped cockpit houses a pair of black-trimmed Cobra racing seats with TRS harnesses as well as a bolt-in roll bar and a Sparco steering wheel. Acquired by the seller in April 2023, this Puma race car is now offered in Guildford, England, with a pair of British number plates and UK V5C registration.
The Ford Puma was designed by Chris Svensson for Ford of Europe and utilized the automaker’s New Edge design language. It was built at Ford’s Cologne, Germany, plant for the European market. Approximately 133k examples were produced between 1997 and 2001.
This example was delivered from the factory in silver, and the seller tells us that replacement front panels finished in black were installed under previous ownership. The bodywork wears a black, white, and yellow vinyl wrap, and additional details include a drilled lower valance, an adjustable front splitter and rear wing, hood pins, and front and rear tow straps. Dents and other imperfections can be seen in the gallery, and the seller notes that the car will require weld repairs on the rocker panels to pass a British MOT inspection.
Multi-piece BBS wheels are mounted with Nankang tires, while braking is handled by power-assisted second-generation Mondeo ST220-sourced front discs paired with rear drums. The seller notes that the suspension springs were cut under previous ownership.
The stripped cockpit features a yellow-finished bolt-in roll bar as well as a pair of black-trimmed Cobra racing seats and TRS harnesses. Additional racing equipment includes a push-button starter, a battery cut-off switch, a fire extinguisher, and a rear strut tower brace. The battery has been relocated to the rear cargo area, and the factory digital clock and power windows are retained. The brake-bias adjustment knob has not been tested under the seller’s ownership.
The Sparco steering wheel frames white-dial gauges including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and readouts for engine temperature and fuel level. Additional gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, and oil temperature are mounted in the center of the dash. The digital odometer shows 110k miles, a handful of which were added by the seller. The Check Engine light is illuminated.
The 1.7-liter VCT inline-four was factory rated at 123 horsepower and 116 lb-ft of torque. A cold-air intake, aftermarket exhaust, and an oil sump guard were installed under previous ownership along with a MOMO strut tower brace. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle.
Rust is visible on various areas of the underside.
The vehicle is being sold on its UK V5C registration. The last valid MOT expired in June 2023.
