The 2026 summer box office has officially set an all-time domestic record, surpassing a historic benchmark that stood for 13 years.
According to tracking firm Rentrak via Variety, domestic ticket sales between May 1 and Labor Day on September 7, 2026, reached $4.76 billion. All four months crossed $1 billion in domestic ticket sales. May brought in $1.07 billion, June earned $1.08 billion, July reached $1.18 billion, and August led with $1.27 billion.
The figure narrowly passed the previous record of $4.755 billion set in 2013, which was driven by Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, and Man of Steel.
The latest result also suggests that more people are returning to theaters. The summer 2026 box office has grossed more than any summer since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day were among the films that helped drive the box office.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 also contributed to the strong season. It made approximately $692.8 million worldwide at the box office.
The record gives Hollywood a major boost after several difficult years. With Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three still ahead, the 2026 annual box office is pacing toward a potential $10 billion domestic finish.
