Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised that he will not spend his holidays abroad if elected President in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the Independence Day celebration in Abuja, Obi declared that his vacations would be dedicated to touring Nigerian states, engaging directly with citizens, and understanding their daily struggles.

“In four years as President, I will not spend my holidays outside Nigeria. My holidays will be spent in Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti and other states. I want to see Nigeria, know Nigeria, and spend time with Nigerians,” he said.

The former Anambra governor emphasized that his administration would prioritize measurable and accountable governance, focusing on welfare, productivity, and security.

He pledged to confront insecurity so farmers could return to their fields, children to schools, and businesses operate without fear.Obi criticized the APC-led government, arguing that despite promises made in 2023, Nigeria continues to grapple with poverty, insecurity, and millions of out-of-school children.

He insisted that the nation’s problem is not a lack of resources but the failure of leaders to convert them into development and prosperity.

Recounting his recent visit to Sokoto with running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, Obi described the suffering of displaced persons at Ramin Kura IDP camp as symbolic of Nigeria’s broader challenges.

He maintained that a President should spend vacations within the country, even in states affected by insurgency, to demonstrate solidarity with citizens.

“Nigeria’s President must spend his vacation in Nigeria. We cannot continue with this nonsense. The President should go to Zamfara, Borno, Anambra—anywhere. As President, I will visit other countries, but I will not take my holidays there,” Obi asserted.
