Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 general election, citing what he described as the administration’s achievements.
Akpabio made the remarks on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund, and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse.
He argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would have a strong record to present to Nigerians during the campaign, noting that Tinubu inherited a struggling economy but has since improved state finances and resolved salary and pension payment challenges.
“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box,” Akpabio said.
He added that Nigerians would “separate the chaff from the grains” in 2027 and reward Tinubu with re-election, while dismissing opposition politicians as lacking convincing alternatives.
Akpabio also defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly, describing its work as “giant strides,” and urged lawmakers to remain focused despite criticism on social media.
The Senate President further encouraged senators who may not return after 2027 to remain loyal to the APC, assuring them that their contributions would be recognised.
