Four-star point guard Taylor Brown has committed to South Carolina over Lady Vols basketball and North Carolina, she announced Oct. 3.
The 5-foot-6 Brown is ranked No. 20 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 30 by ESPN in the 2027 class. Brown took an official visit with Tennessee in June and took her visits to USC and UNC in September.
Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell and her staff are still looking for their first commitment of the 2027 class. Tennessee signed the No. 2-ranked 2025 class during Caldwell's first season and followed that with signing Oliviyah Edwards, the No. 3 player in the 2026 class. But Edwards requested her release in April after all eight of Tennessee's returners entered the transfer portal.
The Lady Vols have two freshmen in their 2026 class with four-star forward Gabby Minus, who was ranked No. 49 in the class by 247Sports Composite, and international guard Irene Oboavwoduo.
Brown, who is coming off an ACL injury in February, began her high school career at Ursuline in Delaware and transferred to powerhouse Long Island (New York) Lutheran High School ahead of her sophomore year. At LuHi, she shared the court with some of the top prospects in the 2026 class, including former five-stars Olivia Jones, Savvy Swords and Emily McDonald.
But at the Hoophall Classic in January, Brown was the star for LuHi. She logged 20 points, eight assists and four steals against Sierra Canyon, winning MVP of the game. Brown was the point of attack for LuHi's defense, which scored 12 points off 14 forced turnovers.
