Bizzarrini was founded in 1964 and produced approximately 140 cars over the course of five years. These are highly sought-after today and an absolute gem is going up for auction. It’s a GT America 2+2 prototype, which was showcased at the 1968 Turin Motor Show.
Looking virtually brand new, the classic grand tourer features aluminum bodywork and an eye-catching Champagne Metallic paint job. They’re joined by chrome bumpers, metallic accents, and magnesium wheels.

Elsewhere, there are front fender vents and what appear to be pop-up headlights. These are accompanied by circular taillights and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
The brown leather interior features a minimalist design with a wood rimmed steering wheel and classic gauges. The prototype also features power windows, toggle switches, and a front passenger grab handle.

However, the real coup de grace is the rear seating compartment. It features two chairs that are separated by a wide center console. Legroom looks pretty tight, but there should be enough for small children.
Motivation is provided by a 327 CID (5.4L) V8 engine that produces around 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS). It’s connected to a four-speed manual that sends power to the rear wheels. Other highlights include disc brakes, an independent front suspension, and a de Dion rear axle.
The GT America 2+2 prototype has traded hands numerous times over the years and was restored in 2008. It will cross the auction block on October 2 at Broad Arrow’s Audrain Auction in Newport, Rhode Island, where it’s expected to fetch between $400,000 and $500,000.
