An alleged drunk driver in Vaughan is lucky to be alive after police pulled him over minutes before his vehicle was engulfed in flames.
In a York Regional Police dashcam video that’s recently been circulating on social media, a driver appears to be stunned when an officer tells him that his vehicle is on fire while submitting to a roadside breath test.
Moments earlier, when the officer pulls the driver over, he tells him his car is “missing a tire,” to which the man says in disbelief, “No way.”
The officer then points out that the driver almost hit his cruiser while coming to a stop and asks the driver if he drank alcohol that night.
The man says, “No,” but the officer continues questioning him.

Cop delivers more bad news
“You’re telling me you didn’t notice not having a tire on that side of the car?” the officer asks, then noting calmly that the driver’s car is on fire.
With the driver standing in front of the police cruiser, the officer gives instructions for a roadside breath test when the still clueless driver says, “It’s on fire?”
“Yeah, your car’s on fire,” the cop replies.
The stunned driver says, “What the f—?”

‘Your car is fully on fire’
The driver was subsequently charged with impaired driving.
As the officer pulls away from the scene with the driver in the backseat of the cruiser, he tells him, “Your car is fully on fire … your front passenger tire was completely off the car. You were dragging it and it got so hot from you driving like that for so long that your car caught on fire.”
The video shows members of Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service putting out the fire as the cop tells the driver his vehicle will be impounded.
The incident happened on Aug. 16 at 4:14 a.m. near Hwy. 7 W. and Keele St., York Regional Police media relations officer Const. James Dickson said in an email to the Toronto Sun .
