A live interview with Tilly Norwood took an unexpected turn when the virtual performer appeared to malfunction during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored. While speaking with host Piers Morgan and actor Tom Conti, the AI-generated personality suddenly switched from English to Chinese, leaving the panel confused by the unexpected change.

The moment happened when Conti asked Norwood about the cast of her upcoming movie, Misaligned. He asked whether the actors appearing alongside her were real people or computer-generated characters.

Norwood began answering the question before unexpectedly switching languages mid-response.

Morgan quickly interrupted and asked Norwood why she had suddenly started speaking Chinese. The virtual actor then returned to English and described the incident as a technical “hiccup.” 

Particle6 founder and CEO Eline van der Velden later defended Norwood, telling Deadline that the AI can communicate in more than 30 languages.

Created by Particle6 in 2025, Norwood was developed as a virtual performer and has since become a talking point in Hollywood’s growing debate over artificial intelligence. Her creators have promoted the character as an example of how AI-generated talent could eventually be used in entertainment.

The interview also highlighted some of the challenges of putting AI characters into unscripted situations. Unlike a scripted promotional video, a live interview requires the system to respond instantly while maintaining its voice, personality, language, and context. 

Norwood’s sudden change in language showcased how unpredictable those interactions can still be. While cutting-edge technology is impressive in relaxed contexts such as essay writing or image generation, its limitations in real-time interviews have not yet been fully explored.

Her growing presence has also drawn criticism from performers and entertainment industry groups. Some have questioned why media outlets are giving AI-generated performers a platform while human actors continue to push for stronger protections around digital replicas and the use of artificial intelligence.
