Disney and 20th Century Fox have taken notice of Alien: Romulus and Alien: Earth success. A Romulus sequel is reportedly in development, while Season 2 of Alien: Earth is currently shooting, reuniting Peter Dinklage and Jerome Flynn. However, a rumored Alien prequel’s future might not be looking as bright as its contemporaries.

Brian Duffield was rumored to be attached to an Alien feature that was distinct from the Romulus sequel or the third entry in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus trilogy. However, Duffield revealed that was not the case during an appearance at New York Comic Con 2026.

He stated, “I know how the rumor started, but it’s not something I’m currently working on. It’s funny; I was just talking to the head of 20th about it. I’m not involved, so I’m always trying to get information as a fan, but I’m not directing Alien.”

How the Alien franchise is expanding across movies, TV, and video games

Disney has a lot planned for the Alien franchise. Alongside the Romulus sequel and Earth Season 2, The House of Mouse is looking to expand the franchise in other ways. On the video game front, Alien: Isolation 2 is in active development. While no release date is confirmed, fans cannot wait to see what Sega and Creative Assembly have in store for the franchise.

The Alien franchise has numerous projects in development and production. Meanwhile, 2025’s Predator: Badlands featured the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and android models typically associated with the Aliens universe. Given the franchises’ two previous crossovers, some speculate that Badlands could be the first step toward a third Alien vs. Predator movie. However, Disney has yet to announce anything of the sort.
