Andrew Garfield revealed his expectations for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Garfield has been part of the Spider-verse since 2012. In an interview with The Playlist, the Spider-Man star revealed a movie premise that might lead him to reprise his role as the web-slinger.

Previously, The Playlist asked Garfield what would convince him to reprise his role as the web-slinger. To which he replied, “I don’t know. I really don’t know. I would need it to be very, very odd. I would need it to be very strange, and I would need it to be completely unconventional.”

The actor also added that he wanted his Spider-Man to be in a story that is not boring but “just completely unexpected.” Moreover, he wanted the web-slinger to be a version in a genre never seen before, adding, “[a genre] that feels very left field.”

As a suggestion, the 43-year-old stated that if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was made, it could be a road-trip movie. However, even after thinking about a premise for his Spider-Man 3, Garfield stated, “I haven’t really landed on anything personally yet. But I’m sure that if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”

In a recent interview on The Playlist’s “The Discourse” Podcast, the star also stated that he occasionally slips into a childlike mindset when he thinks about another Spider-Man movie. During these, the Amazing Spider-Man actor said that he wonders, “What could it be? What would be fun? What would be healing? What would be joyful?”

Andrew Garfield talks about the possibility of a gay Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield acknowledged that the Spider-Man-related questions would follow him until he is 90 years old. This has led him to think about his character and the possibilities surrounding his Peter Parker since his debut.

For instance, in a 2013 comment, Garfield challenged Peter Parker’s sexuality by asking, “Why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?” In a new Entertainment Weekly interview, he confirmed that his stance was “an exercise in rebellion.” However, the web-slinger’s actor still holds this stance, adding, “I just still believe that anyone can be in that suit.”

After debuting as Spider-Man in 2012, the star reprised his role as the web-slinger for the sequel in 2014. However, the third installment of Garfield’s web-slinger was never made. Yet, his appearance opposite Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire has reopened hopes for Spider-Man 3 starring the Hacksaw Ridge actor.

Since he wishes for something unconventional and never-seen-before, exploring Peter Parker’s sexuality could be the premise Garfield is looking for in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

The star will next be seen in his upcoming movie, The Uprising, which is slated to release in theaters on September 11, 2026.
