In Cupertino, it seems like blue is the new black. After the iPhone 17 Pro skipped black for a Deep Blue hue, the MacBook Neo followed in the Midnight MacBook Air’s footsteps with Indigo as the only darker option. And now we expect its first folding phone, dubbed the iPhone Ultra, to take a similar path when it is introduced next week.
As we reported earlier this year, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will come in two new colors when they’re unveiled at Apple’s Surprise and Shine event next week. The flagship color will be Dark Cherry, which has a purplish hue. It is expected to be joined by Light Blue, somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone 13 Pro’s Sierra Blue. We also expect there will be silver and dark gray options, though it’s possible only one will make the final cut.
For the folding iPhone Ultra, however, the color options will be somewhat less… colorful. The same sources that told us about the iPhone 18 Pro colors also revealed the options for the folding iPhone Ultra, and they’re not what most people would expect.
When Apple introduced the radically redesigned iPhone X back in 2017, it was available in two options: silver and space gray. We assumed a similar set of options would be available for the iPhone Ultra, but our source says Apple will release the folding iPhone in two varieties: a standard silver-and-white model and a surprising Indigo Blue option. Our sources say the hue will be closer to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Deep Blue than the MacBook Neo, however.
Those colors were corroborated a few months later by known leaker Sonny Dickson, who shared a photo of the iPhone Ultra’s camera protectors in silver and dark blue.
Apple is expected to unveil the folding iPhone Ultra at its Surprise and Shine event on Wednesday at 10 am PT. According to rumors, it will have a 5.5-inch cover screen that opens to a 7.8-inch internal display, about a half-inch smaller than an iPad mini.
