Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring Feyenoord midfielder Gjivai Zechiël ahead of the January transfer window, according to CaughtOffside’s Ahad Shaukat. The September 22 report cites sources within the agents’ industry and places the interest at the scouting stage, with no offer from either club reported.
Any approach would follow a recent change in Feyenoord’s negotiating position. The Dutch club confirmed on September 17 that Zechiël had extended his contract through the summer of 2029, adding a year to his previous agreement.
The 22-year-old spoke positively about continuing in Rotterdam when he signed, saying he felt at home and believed there was still considerable room for him to develop. That commitment came after a summer in which Lille had tried to take him to France.
GOAL, reporting on his interview with Voetbal International, put Lille’s final offer at €17 million including bonuses. Zechiël acknowledged that the prospect had appealed to him at the time, before explaining that he was happy with how staying had worked out.
His early-season performances help explain why Arsenal and Chelsea would be taking a closer look. The Eredivisie named him Player of the Month for August after he scored three goals and supplied an assist across four full appearances.
He also created 12 chances during that period, giving his performances an attacking influence beyond his own finishing. Those numbers followed a productive season on loan at Utrecht and suggest that his return to Feyenoord has brought another step forward.
For prospective buyers, the question is how well that contribution would carry into a different midfield and the demands of Premier League football. Feyenoord, meanwhile, has both an improving first-team player and a fresh contract supporting its position.
