For Pollença’s 2025 Futur Habitable program, Aulets Arquitectes gives the idea of the future an unexpectedly heavy body. Huge blocks of natural stone are stacked into thick supports, their rough orange and cream faces left exposed beneath a broad timber canopy made from recycled pallets. The pavilion is elemental enough to read in seconds, yet the contrast stays strange with a quarry-scaled mass below and a familiar piece of logistics infrastructure lifted overhead.
Aulets designed the pavilion in Pollença, Mallorca, as part of Futur Habitable, the final installment in a three-year cycle around design and production developed for the town’s annual fair. Previous editions began with Repensar dissenys, repensar processos in 2023 and continued with Tocar fusta in 2024, while the 2025 edition widened the conversation toward how locally available materials might shape future ways of building.

stone as structure, pallets as roof
With its colossal stone supports, the Futur Habitable Pavilion by Aulets Architectes feels closer to a quarry stockpile than conventional masonry. Individual blocks retain broken edges, saw marks and color variation, with some pieces projecting past the courses below them. There is no smooth skin separating the material from its extraction. Instead, the scale of each block becomes the architecture, producing walls thick enough to feel almost geological beside the garden planting and existing stonework.
Overhead, the timber assembly shifts the scale again. Recycled wooden pallets form the outer band of the canopy, while a deeper frame of beams spans between the stone piers. From a distance the roof reads as one thick horizontal plane; up close, its repeated slats reveal the ordinary object it came from. That recognition is part of the pavilion’s appeal. A component associated with transport and storage is given a new architectural job without losing its familiar proportions.

The pavilion sits directly across the pedestrian approach, so movement passes through the gaps between its stone supports. The opening aligns with the church beyond and turns the structure into a low, wide gate. Mature trees press close to the roofline, softening the geometry and making the canopy feel like another layer within the garden. The architecture creates shade and compression for a few steps, then releases the path again.
That simple sequence gives Futur Habitable its argument without turning the pavilion into a diagram. Aulets proposes a future assembled from materials already circulating close to the site, using stone in large, minimally processed blocks and timber pallets in their familiar modular rhythm. The project was named a finalist in the 2026 FAD Awards for Ephemeral Interventions, where the jury cited its dry construction and use of local and recycled materials. The pavilion’s strongest concept is that the future can begin with what is already within reach.
