This originally premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival to many great reviews, and it's now ready to watch for streaming on Netflix this fall along with playing in theaters. Set against the sun-soaked surf culture of Southern California, In Waves, based on a true story, explores the joy of finding your soulmate, the courage it takes to live life to the fullest, and the enduring power of love to shape who we become and what we leave behind. Adapted from the "In Waves" graphic novel. "I wanted to make a film that highlights the tenderness and the resilience in this couple and their group of friends," explains director Phuong Mai Nguyen.
