Benue APC Stakeholders Back Alia, Tinubu for 2027, Warn Against ‘Rainbow Coalition’

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders in Benue State has endorsed the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. 

The group also cautioned party members against actions that could undermine the APC’s unity, including involvement in any so-called “rainbow coalition.”

The endorsement came from the Concerned Benue APC Stakeholders and Strategic Alliance during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday. 

The group’s convener, Dr Dominic Alancha, said the party is bigger than any individual, leader, aspirant or faction, and that collective interests must come before personal disagreements.

Alancha admitted he had previously opposed Alia’s second-term bid for personal and other reasons. 

He said the group had now shifted position because party supremacy requires putting the larger interest of the APC first. 

He urged members with grievances against the governor or party leadership to use official party organs and internal dispute-resolution channels rather than activities that could weaken the party ahead of 2027.

The stakeholders argued that the performance of Alia’s administration provides a strong basis for him to seek another term. 

They also pledged to mobilise support across Benue for both Alia and Tinubu. The group called on party elders, leaders and members to resolve differences through dialogue and established structures, and appealed for reconciliation among different camps.

Alancha further urged APC authorities to uphold the party constitution, apply disciplinary measures fairly and through due process where necessary, and investigate any activities that could damage the party’s prospects in the state. 

He advised Governor Alia to remain focused on governance while party members concentrate on grassroots mobilisation.The group specifically warned against a “rainbow coalition,” describing it as a potential threat to APC unity. 

This comes amid a broader national debate in which APC governors have rejected any alliance that could undermine the party’s full slate of candidates, while Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has promoted a cross-party platform focused on Tinubu’s re-election while allowing flexibility on other races.

The stakeholders said they would take their campaign to local government areas, wards and communities across Benue to defend the APC mandate in 2027.
