FOX’s Best Medicine quickly became a favorite for its small-town charm, quirky characters, and unique medical cases.
The cast exhibited a believable connection, especially between the leads, Josh Charles’ Dr. Martin Best and Abigail Spencer’s Louisa Gavin.
Many fans are rooting for Martin and Louisa to eventually get together, as much as we appreciate the need for their personal growth, too.
(Jojo Whilden/FOX)Best Medicine Season 2 already has plenty of drama with Martin’s ex, Eden’s arrival in Port Wenn, and Louisa contemplating whether she will have a baby with Mark.
That’s a full-fledged love square with plenty of angst, drama, and humor. Adding a love interest for Louisa feels like overkill.

Louisa and Martin’s journey back to one another is complicated enough already. Let’s take a look.
Louisa’s OB-GYN is Martin’s ex-girlfriend, Dr. Eden Montgomery. I’m sure he meant well by introducing the two, since Louisa needed a specialist, but talk about awkward!
(FOX/Screenshot)It became more complicated when Eden came to Port Wenn to reclaim Martin. She hates Port Wenn and does not want to live there.
Part of me suspects she’ll be involved in monitoring Martin’s medical duties, too. However, she wants to cure his blood phobia and get him as far away from Port Wenn and Louisa as possible.
I don’t particularly like her, but she’s determined and entertaining, and Martin has his hands full balancing his women and his career.
Eden can sense no one likes her.
Martin’s decisions will likely depend on what Louisa decides about having a baby because her biological clock is ticking.
There’s no secret that I’m rooting for Louisa and Mark to have a baby together.
(FOX/Screenshot)Their friendship is endearing and entertaining, and it would be different to watch best friends raise a child from the beginning.
Think of the stories Best Medicine could do with that. If Martin and Louisa dated, he’d need to learn to adapt to another man’s child, and it would affect his friendship with Mark.

Parker Will Already Annoy Martin Without Dating LouisaJack Cutmore Scott (Frasier) is joining the cast of Best Medicine Season 2. He’ll play Parker, the professional doctor who monitors Martin’s work.
(Chris Haston/Paramount+)There is plenty of drama right there because Martin is already overqualified to be a small-town doctor, but he left Boston because of his blood phobia. He’ll likely feel resentful toward anyone overseeing his every move.
Very few people understand his phobia or his quirks, so having a new person will set off Martin’s fuse.
Louisa is one of the few people who Martin trusted. It will devastate Martin when she falls for the enemy, and I fear that could drive an even bigger wedge between them just as they were making ground.
I would’ve preferred to see them work through their issues without an additional interloper. He could have vented about work to her, even as friends, and talked openly.
(FOX/Screenshot)That won’t be possible if she’s dating the one person who could make or break his career. What a mess.
I’m not against drama, but I don’t think Best Medicine needs to manufacture extra issues when it already has plenty. We don’t need another love triangle.
