As the title suggests, I'm on the lookout for series where the order doesn't matter (or mostly doesn't matter).
I just finished book 4 of T. Kingfisher's Paladins series (Paladin's Faith) and I've really enjoyed the series is set up, with each book so far having a different but slightly connected main character. I enjoy that I'll see a character in a small role, only for them to be a major focus in another book, but most of all I like that they all happen fairly close chronologically and that there's little that is dependent on reading previous books. (I wouldn't have been too lost just reading them completely out of order).
Thinking that though, I couldn't think of any other series I've read like that. After I while I got to: Discworld, to a point (the miniseries can be read out of order, but I feel I'd miss stuff if I tried to read the miniseries themselves in the wrong order); Narnia to a point (mostly because I did this as a child and didn't really notice). That's all I could think of.
I normally stick to sci-fi/fantasy so it may just be I don't see them since they all live in mystery (Agatha Christie, though her books are only sort of a "series", but it's pretty similar), or some other genre I don't read much of at all.
So, I think I must just not be able to think of them, or haven't come across them. Any series or authors where this is common?
