Nobody wants to forced into accepting less than they deserve.

It's not a great idea to back anyone into a corner. If you have to trick or manipulate someone into doing something, it's probably not a great idea in the first place. That's what happened in this workplace story at a shrinking company. They were in a position where they had to cut benefits but wanted to keep their core employees. This is not a great way to inspire the people who work for you. It's hard to ask someone to give up something that they already had just for the sake of business. You have to be a little more tactful about these things or else you'll end up losing the talent on your team. The boss in this story didn't quite understand that, though, and wanted to make it the employee's fault when everything went sideways.
