Nolan Almeida recently spoke about his time working with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson on Brothers. The actor revealed that his two co-stars’ approach to filming was different from what he had experienced previously and required him to adjust his own approach on set.
Nolan Almeida says improvisation was highly encouraged while filming BrothersNolan Almeida said improvisation was a major part of filming Brothers, with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson often changing scenes once production was underway. The actor explained that preparation involved more than memorizing the script.
“Like, you can read the script as many times you want, you can get to know it. Once you are there, Matthew might go and say something entirely different. Or Woody might just bring in some, like, funny joke. And he was like and you had to really be present. You had to really be there. And it was like the improv of that and like that sort of nature was highly encouraged,” Almeida said during a recent interview.
Almeida also noted that the approach required him to move away from the way he had worked in theater. He explained that his previous experiences had taught him to focus on delivering his lines as written. He continued, “I remember from the first week I was like, ‘I’ve done mostly theater.’ And so with that, its like, ‘Say your lines correctly.’ And with Matthew, he was like, ‘It’s okay, you can loosen up, you know? If something comes to you, say it. Like, if you need to say something, go ahead and say it.’”

Almeida also recalled, “I remember one day, me and Matthew started a scene, and by the end of the day, it was an entirely different scene. And so stuff like that was really, really fun to get to do.”
Brothers stars Harrelson and McConaughey as themselves, with Almeida playing the character Wyatt. Natalie Martinez portrays Valentina, while Brittany Ishibashi plays Joy. The show’s story centers on Harrelson and McConaughey, whose long friendship is disrupted by a shocking family secret.
