What is The Rebound with Catherine Zeta-Jones about? The Rebound captures the quintessential era of 2000s romantic comedies, offering plenty of charm for fans of films like The Proposal.
The story centers on Sandy (Catherine Zeta-Jones), a devoted mother who abruptly leaves her suburban life after discovering that her husband has been unfaithful to her while viewing her son’s birthday video. Moving to New York City with her two kids, Sandy rents an apartment above a local coffee shop.
There she meets Aram, played by Justin Bartha, a younger barista reeling from a brief marriage to a woman who only wanted a green card. Struggling to live up to his family’s high expectations, Aram strikes up a new friendship with Sandy and agrees to work as her nanny while she gets back to work.
Over the time that they spend together, Aram and Sandy realize that they get along great. However, neither can figure out if the attraction between them is genuine or if they are simply looking for a rebound and have found each other.
The movie was first released in Mexico in 2009 and then in the United States in 2012. The movie opened to lukewarm criticism, with critics calling the script nowhere near good enough to merit actors like Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha. While the story received a lot of criticism too, characters in the movie were described as charming and likeable.
