This CDD Lider 85 is a non-running project that was campaigned by a Monterrey, Mexico-based racing team in the 1980s and 1990s, and it spent several decades in storage before it was purchased by the seller in 2025 and imported to the US. It features removable green and yellow bodywork over a tube-frame chassis, and retains a Volkswagen-sourced DOHC inline-four and four-speed manual transaxle with straight-cut gears. Equipment includes fuel injection, TWM intake manifolds, tubular headers, inboard suspension with adjustable coilovers, four-wheel disc brakes, 13″ wheels, front and rear wings, and a Reynard-branded Personal steering wheel. A replacement starter was installed in August 2026, and the engine is said to turn over by hand, though it is unknown when the car was last run, and the seller notes that the electrical system will require replacement prior to use. This CDD Lider 85 project is now offered at no reserve in Colorado with spare parts and a bill of sale.
CDD (Carrocería y Diseño Deportivo) Liders were built in Mexico and based on a licensed SF84 Formula 2000 design from Reynard Motorsport. Liders were entered in Mexico’s Formula K racing series, which ran from 1984 to 1989 and featured several Mexican-built manufacturers fielding cars with Chrysler K-Car-sourced inline-four engines. This example features replacement bodywork finished in green with yellow accents, and equipment includes front and rear wings, NACA ducts, a roll hoop, and a left-side intake scoop. The 13″ six-spoke wheels are mounted with older Goodyear slicks that have cracked sidewalls. The car utilizes an inboard suspension system with rockers and adjustable coilovers. Disc brakes are fitted at all four wheels, and a trio of Girling brake master cylinders are mounted on the firewall.
The cockpit houses a right-handed shifter and fixed-back aluminum seat. A black fiberglass seat insert is included in the sale, and a headrest trimmed in red vinyl is mounted on the rear bulkhead above a Fuel Safe fuel cell. The car retains a fire-suppression system.
The Reynard-branded Personal steering wheel fronts an instrument panel housing an 8k-rpm Stack tachometer, a combination gauge, switchgear, and a brake bias adjustment knob.
The Volkswagen-sourced DOHC inline-four is said to turn over, and it is equipped with TWM intake manifolds, Patterson Enterprises fuel injection with individual throttle bodies, tubular exhaust headers, and a dry-sump oiling system. A replacement starter was installed in August 2026, and an invoice from the service can be seen in the gallery. The seller notes that the Electromotive electrical system, including the ECU, will require replacement.
The four-speed manual is believed to be a Hewland-Webster Mk.8-style gearbox.
