BUDGET CARRIER Cebu Pacific said artificial intelligence (AI) tools have shortened processing times in several internal workflows, including legal contract reviews, project intake, and engineering reference searches.

The airline said on Monday that it is working with Thinking Machines Data Science and OpenAI as part of its enterprise AI strategy.

Since the rollout of ChatGPT Enterprise, legal contract review time has fallen to around 1.2 hours from an average of 2.5 hours, while project intake and triage turnaround has declined to around one day from five days, Cebu Pacific said in a statement.

Manual review effort for project intake and triage has also fallen by about 80%, while engineering reference searches have been reduced to under 10 seconds from 10 to 15 minutes, it added.

The airline said 86% of surveyed users reported that AI supported more than one-third of their daily work.

“At Cebu Pacific, we see AI as a practical way to make every customer’s journey simpler and our operations more reliable. It helps our people solve problems faster, make better decisions, and focus on higher-value work,” Cebu Pacific Chief Digital and Technology Officer Fabricio Ibáñez said.

Cebu Pacific said it worked with Thinking Machines Data Science, an AI and data transformation company, to identify and test AI-enabled workflows in real operating conditions.

The airline said the collaboration also involved addressing adoption barriers, setting governance and evaluation measures based on workflow risks, and identifying appropriate technologies for specific tasks.

“Our partnership with Thinking Machines Data helps make our operations more efficient, so our people can focus on delivering a better experience for our passengers,” Mr. Ibáñez said.

Cebu Pacific said it has developed a roadmap to expand ChatGPT-enabled work, build solutions using OpenAI application programming interfaces, strengthen support for organizational changes, and pursue agentic AI applications connected to enterprise data and systems. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
