A new Christmas horror–comedy movie has secured a release update ahead of its world premiere. Although the movie is set during the festive holidays, it has a dark twist, wherein a bloodthirsty vampire puts on a Santa suit and turns the white snow red.
According to Variety, Shudder has officially acquired the Christmas horror flick, Red Snow. The movie has its world premiere at the Fantastic Fest 2026, which runs from September 17 to 24. Following the fest, Red Snow will be available to stream on Shudder, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
According to Red Snow’s official description, the story “takes place in Finland, where 16-year-old emo teen Johanna dreams of a glittering ‘Twilight’ vampire prince. What she gets instead is Martti — a balding, beer-bellied 49-year-old bloodsucker who slips into a Santa suit to gain entry to homes and devour entire families. When Johanna crosses paths with Martti on Christmas Eve, she thinks her dark fairy tale has come true. But instead of eternal romance, she finds herself trapped in a bloody and horrific nightmare of family trauma and festive slaughter. By morning, the snow will turn red.”
What else do we know about the new Christmas horror movie Red Snow?The Finnish horror-comedy movie is written and directed by Ilja Rautsi, known for Helsinki Mansplaining Massacre and Hatching. The ensemble includes Hannu-Pekka Björkman, Anni Iikkanen, Kari Hietalahti, Krista Kosonen, Tommi Korpela, and Marja-Liisa Nguyen.
In a statement, Rautsi revealed that the idea behind Red Snow comes from his “lifetime of love for all things horror.” The director added, “So I’m beyond thrilled to have the film be so widely available on Shudder. It’s a splattery Christmas present made by freaks for freaks. I couldn’t hope for a better home.”
Misha Jaari and Mark Lwoff serve as producers of the movie, with Ivo Felt and Peter Krupenin as co-producers. Executive producers include Niki Leskinen and Ari Tolppanen.
