Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu arrived in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Saturday, two days after President Bola Tinubu ordered security agencies to rescue all abducted persons and eliminate every terrorist and bandit camp across Nigeria.

Shuaibu reached the state capital around 11 a.m. on Saturday. He was received at the headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai in Maimalari Cantonment.

On October 15 that Defence Minister Christopher Musa disclosed the presidential directive.

Tinubu issued the order to heads of security agencies during a security meeting he chaired at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.Musa said the President also instructed service chiefs and other security leaders to create a safe environment for Nigerians to participate in the elections planned for January.

“The directive from the President is: all of us must go all out to fish out and rescue all those that have been abducted, kidnapped, wherever they are,” Musa stated.

“There shouldn’t be any camp of any terrorists or bandits anywhere in Nigeria.”It remains unclear whether Shuaibu’s trip is directly linked to the presidential order.

Sources indicated that the army chief is scheduled to meet theatre, field, and unit commanders throughout the state.Further details are expected.
