Colerain High School's athletic department said Saturday it will address an incident in which a football player appeared to kick La Salle High School quarterback Garrett Fraley in the head during Friday night's game.

Referees did not penalize the play. The incident drew attention after video circulated online Saturday showing the apparent kick.

In a statement posted Saturday on the athletic department's Facebook page, school officials said they had spoken with Fraley, his parents and La Salle administrators.

"We are aware of the incident that occurred on the field during last night’s game," the department said. "We do not condone this behavior, and it does not represent the standards, values, or culture of Colerain. This is not the Colerain way. We have spoken with the La Salle athlete and his parents, as well as La Salle administration. The situation will be handled appropriately."

La Salle coach Pat McLaughlin called the incident "unfortunate" and said that Fraley is OK.

"I'm proud of how he and our team handled the situation. We will use this as a teaching moment for our entire program," he told The Enquirer.

Led by wide receiver Brooks McLaughlin, wide receiver Tyler Roby and Fraley's efforts, among others, the Lancers won 30-21 against a Colerain team that has shown vast improvement under second-year coach and former Miami RedHawks player Jordan Stevens.

Led by players such as wide receivers Trey Smith and Desean Flagg and quarterback Roman Garr, who's gotten offers from seven Division I college programs, the Cardinals held their own against a talented La Salle team. Colerain's one win against Sycamore in 2025 was the first win the Cardinals had achieved since 2022.

Colerain will host Hamilton on Friday, while La Salle hosts Northmont.
