Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota may have found a new favorite word: Unbelievable.
He kept saying it after leading the Commanders to a stunning win over the Seattle Seahawks, 33-31, at Northwest Stadium on Sunday. They snapped the Seahawks’ 12-game winning streak dating back to last season.
It is a worn-out adjective in sports, but the Commanders did play unbelievably against the defending champions. Mariota could be given a pass for repeating it several times in his one-minute postgame interview.

“They (teammates) did an unbelievable job. It’s hard when you’re 0-2. It’s so easy to kind of cave in this early on in the year, and these guys believed in each other. They came out and played unbelievably today,” said Mariota.
The veteran quarterback, who filled in for Jayden Daniels anew, went 19-of-31 for 183 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also tipped his hat to coach Dan Quinn.
“He’s a special coach. Unbelievable man. I think the way he just continues to find motivation for us, regardless of where we are and regardless of the circumstance. It’s a lot of credit to him and how he continues to handle himself.”
There’s that word again.

Before facing the Seahawks, Quinn maintained his full belief in the 32-year-old Mariota, stressing that they will rally around him. Mariota repaid the complete trust.
He, however, stated that they cannot celebrate too much even though they played—what’s the word?
“It’s unbelievable. But it’s one, right? We’ve got a bunch more of these to go. I think we’re close on offense. The defense played unbelievably today. They got a bunch of turnovers. If we could clean up some things on offense, I think we could be really good,” added Mariota.
The Commanders will face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 in London.
