Back in August, the BYD Ti 7 appeared on the Department of Energy’s list of recognized EVs with both 2WD and 4WD variants. This month, during our trip to China, BYD Philippines confirmed that the Ti 7 will be available in our market soon. Although a specific launch date wasn’t announced, here’s what we can expect from this boxy SUV.
The Ti 7, sold in China under BYD’s sub-brand Fangchengbao, is a chunky plug-in hybrid SUV. It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with either a single or dual electric motors. The AWD variant we tried makes 483hp and achieves 0-100kph in just 5.3sec. It also comes with the DiSus-C suspension system, which electronically controls the damping force as you drive.

It’s a blocky-looking thing, more akin to the design of the Denza B8 and B5 than to BYD’s current SUV lineup in the Philippines. However, despite its rugged appearance, the brand says this is more of a city SUV. It comes with 20-inch wheels fitted with highway-terrain tires and has various on-road driving assistance features such as integrated cruise control, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping control, and traffic sign recognition, among others.

In other countries, the Ti 7 comes in multiple exterior colors including Emerald Green, Obsidian Black, Alantis Grey, Titanium Metallic Gray, Star & Moon Silver, and Jungle Green. The interior also has its fair share of color options like Gray & White, Black & Brown, as well as Blue & Black. Speaking of the cabin, the SUV normally comes in a five-seater layout, but there is also a seven-seater in other markets, which the brand is considering bringing here.
