The price of liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, also known as cooking gas, has continued to fluctuate in recent weeks.
A market survey by DAILY POST on Saturday indicated that LPG prices ranged between N1,300 and N1,500 per kilogram at filling stations in Abuja and its environs.
DAILY POST observed that the price range applied to retail outlets operated by AA Rano, Ranoil, MRS filling stations in Abuja.
However, other micro-LPG retail outlets in Abuja dispensed the product at prices ranging between N1,600 and N1,700 per kilogram.
DAILY POST reports that weeks ago, cooking gas prices had dropped to as low as N1,200 per kilogram before the recent increase.
Speaking on the fluctuation in LPG prices, Lawal Taofeek, spokesperson for the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, NIPCO, attributed the situation to volatility in global petroleum product prices.
“It is due to fluctuations in global energy prices,” he told DAILY POST in an interview on Saturday.
Meanwhile, LPG prices had eased in August 2026 after the Dangote Refinery and depot owners reduced their prices.
A factsheet released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA in August showed that LPG imports surged by 44 per cent to 1.3 million metric tonnes per day, KT/D, up from 0.9 million KT/D.
