Self-checkout always produces a new problem.

It is crazy how it almost seems on purpose that self-checkout always has some kind of issue when you use it. The times I paid at that checkout and did it without having to call an employee for help can be counted on the fingers of one hand. It's like they are set up with issues on purpose to make you waste time and miss the normal checkout service. I may be dumb, but not so dumb as not to know how that machine works, so getting in trouble every single time I use it isn't an isolated case. It's common to have issues with it, which proves that the machine has a problem. There is something wrong with it that makes the whole shopping experience unbearable.

In this story, we have a man who also had issues with this awful machine —which proves it isn't just a me issue. His story is a little too far if compared to other supermarket stories. What happened is that the man did the whole purchase, which was enormous, only to realize when he was already home, and with all the purchases out of his car and into his home, that he didn't pay. Before getting a call from a police officer in his house, he called the customer service line to try to do the n¿correct thing. No one would have imagined that it would mean getting zero assistance from the store's employee. They expected him to bring back all the products and purchase them back, crazy. Luckily, he thought of a more fun and clever way to comply.

Now, would you have acted like that if this was you? I probably wouldn´t have called at all. Not because I would have wanted to steal from a multimillion-dollar company, but because I wouldn't have noticed until I got a call from the company. Let's suppose you realized; would you have taken all the groceries to charge them again? Or would you have just said 'no'? I don't think anyone would have traveled back to the store with the products.
