Charles Otu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi Civil Society Coalition Group, has alleged that the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Ebonyi State is no longer functioning as a proper aviation facility and is instead being used by a church for worship services.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Otu claimed that commercial flights no longer operate from the airport. He said the only aircraft using the facility are private chartered flights that allegedly ferry Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife at public expense.
“A church has taken over that airport and is using that airport for Sunday and midweek services. The airport has become a worship centre,” Otu stated.
He described the situation as unfortunate and said videos circulating online earlier supported the claim that no commercial or other private flights land there.
“A church has ingloriously, unfortunately, shamelessly… taken over that airport and is using that airport for church service, as we speak. That is the correct state of affairs in that airport,” he added.
