Maybe I’m just turning into an angry old man shouting at clouds who is way behind the times but I’m getting a bit fed up of the massive increase in engagement bait titles on this sub over the past few months. It’s usually always one of the following:
- ‘first month in wildlife photography,here are my favourites please tell me I’m amazing even though I’ve just started’
- ‘I’m an x year old young photographer, look at how great I am’
‘Here are some wildlife photos, which is your favourite and also tell me how brilliant they are’
‘Which one of these photos should I enter into a competition but let’s be honest they’re all fantastic’
These posts always end up being the most popular and the ones I get push notifications about, but to me it’s a cynical way to drive engagement over other posts. I’d much rather know where they’re taken and/or what they are of but maybe that’s just me. If not, maybe the mods could consider updating the community rules to change to only allow locations and/or animal names in the title. This would allow people to find out the key information first (often people don’t even bother including it, again is that for engagement so they get people asking about location?) and would allow it to be a more level playing field on what posts become popular, making the key determinant being the quality of photos rather than the title.
