Walking out to bat at eight and with Glamorgan holding a 379-run lead, Crane scored an unbeaten 114 off 136 in an innings that comprised 12 fours and three sixes. The knock came after Asa Tribe’s monumental 155, which was also the England hopeful's maiden hundred in the top division, and helped Glamorgan set a mammoth 612 for Surrey to chase.
Crane walked out at 362-6 and soon lost centurion Tribe, but he joined hands with Timm van der Gugten, who scored 72, to add 129 runs for the ninth wicket and drive them to a huge lead. Van der Gugten and Raymond Toole fell in quick succession to Adam Thomas, but Crane found an able partner in Mir Hamza, who slammed his way to a 32-ball 35 featuring two fours and three sixes. The duo added 98 runs for the last wicket, during which the leg-spinner also completed his second hundred in the format.
Crane, who has featured in just one Test for England: the Sydney Test of the 2018 Ashes, averaged 11.52 with the bat in his first 70 first-class games with a top score of 29. But his move to Glamorgan in 2024 seems to have done wonders to his batting as he has averaged 33.11 since, with six fifties and two hundreds. Notably, both of Crane's first-class hundreds have come this season, and both against Surrey. He had also fallen just one run short of a maiden FC ton earlier this season against Leicestershire.

Since joining Glamorgan in 2024, he's averaged 33.11, reached 50 six times, and now scored two hundreds this Championship season - both vs Surrey.
Remarkable transformation.
Earlier in the clash, Glamorgan were bundled out for 132 in the first innings on the back of Auqib Nabi’s four-wicket haul. Tribe and Jack Hope-Bell top-scored with 31 and 33, respectively, while Daniel Worrall, Matthew Fisher and Tom Lawes, took two wickets each. Surrey kept losing wickets at regular intervals in their reply, and were eventually kept down to 115, handing Glamorgan a 17-run first-innings lead. Zain-ul-Hassan picked up four, while van der Gugten managed three wickets.
