Eskom has announced a 10-hour electricity supply interruption in Daveyton, as planned maintenance work gets underway on the area’s distribution network.

Eskom says the interruption is necessary to carry out essential maintenance on distribution power lines serving the area. The power utility explained that this preventative work forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of the network and reduce the risk of unplanned outages in future. Eskom apologised in advance for the inconvenience the maintenance will cause and thanked residents for their cooperation.

Areas and times affected by the Eskom

The outage will run from 8:00 to 18:00 on Wednesday, 26 August, affecting customers in Hlakwana, Kwena and Mabuya, as well as shops at Sqaureni and Daveyton Mall. Eskom has urged all affected customers to treat electrical appliances and wiring as live at all times during the interruption, warning that supply could be restored without notice before the announced end time. The utility also cautioned that the maintenance schedule could be disrupted by circumstances beyond its control, meaning the outage may not proceed exactly as communicated.

How to stay updated and report issues

Eskom has encouraged customers to use several official channels to stay informed or report supply-related problems. These include the “MyEskom Customer” self-help app, WhatsApp on 0860037566, and the USSD code *120*37566#. Customers can also access the Alfred chatbot through Eskom’s website or check billing queries online through the Eskom customer portal on weekdays between 08:00 and 16:00. For urgent supply-related enquiries, Eskom’s contact centre remains available 24 hours a day on 08600 37566.

The Daveyton maintenance forms part of Eskom’s broader programme across the Gauteng cluster to upgrade and maintain ageing infrastructure, which has repeatedly caused unplanned disruptions for households and businesses in the area. While the scheduled interruption will cause short-term inconvenience, Eskom maintains that this kind of preventative work is essential for improving long-term supply stability.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan for the outage window, particularly for activities that rely on electricity, and to ensure devices are charged in advance. Businesses at Sqaureni and Daveyton Mall may also need to make contingency arrangements for the duration of the interruption.
