Kit Harington has opened up about the MCU project that never made it to the screen. The actor, who played Dane Whitman in Eternals, was previously in talks to reprise the role in a future project.
During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harington discussed his potential return as Dane Whitman in the MCU, a possibility that ultimately did not move forward.
The post-credits scene of Eternals teased Whitman’s future as the Black Knight. He was preparing to wield the Ebony Blade when a mysterious voice, later confirmed to be Mahershala Ali’s Blade, asked if he was ready for it.
At one point in the interview, Horowitz asked Harington about Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s plans for the future of Black Knight in the MCU.
“I met Kevin for a general [meeting] a while before that came up, and he said, ‘Look, we’d really love to find something,” the actor shared. “And then it was presented as, like, this is—you know how they do in the Marvel universe. They’ll throw a character in and then see if it goes anywhere, or see if they introduce him [somewhere]. And in the end it didn’t.”
The Game of Thrones star continued, “I think that’s always the way of things: they’re sort of testing to see if there’s something they want to play with. And there was always the idea it might.”
Harington added, “I think he’s a really interesting character. Talking of addiction and all that, I think there’s something fascinating to play with the Black Knight, and I felt this from the start: that the Ebony Blade is one that he uses and then gets bloodlust, and I think there’s an interesting story of someone going from hero to villain right there.”
