This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette fuelie was initially sold new by Daniels Motors of Colorado Springs, but was promptly traded back and campaigned by dealer owner Al Daniels in the July 1962 Pikes Peak Hill Climb race, finishing third. The racing equipment was removed, and the family retained the car until 2019, when it was sold and relocated to Florida. Subsequent work involved rebuilding the fuel injection system, distributor, and generator, and replacing the exhaust manifolds, exhaust system, plug wires, spark plugs, fuel tank, fuel sender, and fuel lines. Al Daniels’ granddaughter and husband, the current owners, purchased the car on BaT in September 2021 and returned it to Colorado Springs. Records indicate that RPO 276 15×5.5″ wheels were purchased for the car in June 2023 for $16,500. Previously offered on BaT in April 2026, this 327/360 fuelie, four-speed is now offered again at no reserve on dealer consignment with original purchase documents, a window sticker, newspaper clippings, the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Colorado title.
Articles from the time period said to show the car, and other cars the Daniels competed with, are provided in the gallery along with photos of a 2022 article about the car in The Corvette Restorer. Service records from Daniels Chevyland extend into the 2010s.
The car was originally painted Almond Beige and was refinished in Fawn Beige under previous ownership. Exterior features include a body-colored hardtop, split chrome bumpers, a Daniels Chevrolet dealer badge, color-matched coves, quad headlights, and bright-finished trim. Blemishes are shown up close in the gallery. There is no soft top, and the exterior side mirror was reportedly removed for racing and never reinstalled.
Replacement 15×5.5″ steel wheels featuring a body-color finish and dog-dish hubcaps were purchased in 2023 and they are wrapped in US Royal nylon bias-ply tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in beige vinyl with color-coordinated door trim panels and carpets as well as a body-colored dashboard. Amenities include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, lap safety belts, an analog clock, and a push-button AM radio. The seat foam and carpets are said to need to be replaced, the radio and clock do not work, and the dash pad has shrunk around the windshield and mirror.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,600-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows over 51k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added during current ownership.
The 327ci V8 was factory equipped with Rochester mechanical fuel injection and a high-lift camshaft for a rating of 360 horsepower when new. Service around 2020 reportedly included rebuilding the fuel injection system, distributor, generator, and replacement of exhaust manifolds, exhaust system, spark plug wires, spark plugs, fuel tank, fuel sender, and fuel lines. The selling dealer tells us that it runs best on 110 octane fuel.
The stamping on the engine pad is shown above. The RF suffix is consistent with a 327ci V8 rated at 360 horsepower and designated for a 1962 Corvette with Rochester mechanical fuel injection, a high-lift camshaft, and a manual transmission.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction limited-slip differential. The rear ratio is said to have been lowered from the factory 4.56:1 gearing.
A window sticker, dealer paperwork, and an appraisal inspection report are shown in the gallery.
