Within the distinguished grounds of Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts (ADREA), a captivating new architectural narrative takes shape. Designed by Dubai-based studio 4SPACE for Michelin-starred Emirati Chef Faisal Alharmoodi, Falwa restaurant presents a thoughtful study in how regional identity can be translated into built form without falling into the trap of literal illustration or nostalgic decor. Spanning 450 sqm, the project bridges contemporary regional gastronomy with the UAE’s deep-rooted affinity for the Arabian horse, achieving a fluid, modern spatial language that speaks through form, motion, and tactile materiality.
The conceptual foundation rests upon the name Falwa, an Arabic term for a young female mare in her first year post-weaning, synonymous with youth, grace, and unfettered movement. Rather than adorning the interior with conventional equestrian imagery, 4SPACE turned its attention to the physical kinetic qualities of the animal itself: the tension of its muscle, the strength of its skeletal structure, and its innate fluidity. Intertwined with this is a subtle nod to Rabdan, the legendary steed of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This heritage is subtly woven into the space through a custom dusty-white mineral plaster palette, reminiscent of Rabdan’s coat, which wraps the entire architectural envelope in a soft, earthy canvas that absorbs and reflects the changing daylight.

Spatial Anatomy and Kinetic Geometry inform the interior design
Stepping into the main dining room, one immediately notices how traditional architectural boundaries dissolve. Walls, columns, and ceilings expand, stretch, and narrow in a continuous, sculptural sweep that mimics anatomical movement. Organic, asymmetrical portals slice through this fluid shell, framing dynamic, ever-changing perspectives as guests navigate through the venue. Integrated lines of linear lighting trace these sweeping transitions like a precise drawing tool, mapping the interior contours and highlighting the geometry of the space, designed by 4SPACE creative studio. Anchoring the dining area is a central, monumental installation that reinterprets the desert gathering place. Inspired by the palm tree, the sculptural centerpiece features a warm metallic framework expanding into a geometric woven canopy, complete with mirrored panels that capture fragmented reflections of the surrounding architecture and custom curved banquette seating hugging its base.

Material Craft and Structural Precision define Falwa restaurant
4SPACE’s commitment to nuanced storytelling carries through to the material selection and tactile detailing. Underfoot, polished Breccia Aurora marble reveals rich veins of cream, beige, and warm brown, offering a sleek mineral contrast to the soft, matte plaster walls. Dining tables crafted from rich walnut timber rest upon solid white travertine bases, balancing warmth with natural grounding. The equestrian narrative is brought down to a delicate human scale through custom furniture that references the art of saddlery. Dining chairs feature saddle brown leather straps, exposed stitching, and refined metal hardware that echo bridles and harnesses without becoming direct replicas. Overhead, the Vibia Plusminus lighting system utilizes brown textile straps to drape glowing glass spheres across the ceiling, capturing the rhythmic tension of reins.
Behind this effortless spatial landscape lies rigorous engineering and digital craftsmanship. Realizing the seamless, unbroken envelope required extensive 3D digital modeling and technical drafting to ensure structural consistency across every curved surface. Complex MEP routes, air-conditioning systems, and technical access points were entirely reimagined and concealed within the winding architectural forms, leaving behind an uninterrupted interior where design and gastronomy exist in quiet, elegant harmony.
