Just DNF’d at ~380ish pages in. Hate DNFing, really tried to push myself here. Some say this is when it picks up; some say this is when it gets the most convoluted. Either way, I was forcing myself to read on. Probably my only DNF this year, and I’m especially sad because I genuinely loved name of the rose. Eco is brilliant; that cannot be denied. I feel like Name of the rose resonated because it was able to stay in its own little universe, whereas FP feels more like Eco unleashed to the full capacity of his knowledge with no bounds. Which to me was a lot of intellectual spray. Don’t tell me to go read Dan Brown. In fact I’m gonna go read The Haar because I need to get back on the wagon fast if I’m gonna hit my 2026 reading goals
