More than 82,000 Ford Maverick Hybrid models in the United States may suffer from the intermittent loss of anti-lock and regenerative braking, a petition recently filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) alleges.
On July 20, the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition calling for a defect investigation into 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrids. The petitioner, an owner of the hybrid truck, alleges that they were involved in a collision due to the loss of the Maverick’s anti-lock and regenerative braking features.

It’s claimed that the truck continued to suffer from issues despite four repair attempts and spending more than 50 days out of service. It’s also alleged the model was improperly excluded from related brake-control software recalls previously issued by Ford.
As a first step, the ODI has opened a defect petition to determine whether it should grant or deny it. An estimated 82,040 Ford Maverick Hybrid models from the 2024 model year have been identified.
Recall After Recall
The Ford Maverick has been the subject of numerous recall campaigns in the United States since its introduction. In fact, the 2024 model alone has been recalled 15 times since being introduced. It was most recently recalled in late May alongside the Bronco Sport after it was determined that the front lower control arm ball joints may have been incorrectly installed or repaired.
Other recalls issued over the past 12 months include one for trailer lights and brakes that may not work properly and one issued last October after it was revealed the engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak.
