Gameweek 2 of the English Premier League season has come and gone, and it gave us plenty to talk about as teams continue to settle into the new season.

There were some impressive performances, a few surprising results and more signs of what we might see from certain teams over the coming weeks. Some sides have made a strong start and look ready to build on it, while others still have plenty to figure out.

Of course, it is still too early to judge teams based on just two games. However, the latest round of fixtures gave us a few useful clues, especially with Gameweek 3 now approaching.

Here are three things we learned from Gameweek 2 that could be worth keeping in mind ahead of the next round of fixtures.

Chelsea and Manchester United Attackers Offer FPL Potential Despite Defensive Concerns

Chelsea and Manchester United both showed how dangerous they can be in attack in Gameweek 2. Chelsea scored four goals against Brighton, while Manchester United put five past Ipswich. After two games, both teams have already shown that they have plenty of attacking options who could be useful for FPL managers.

However, their performances at the other end of the pitch tell a different story. Chelsea led Brighton 3-0 but still allowed the visitors to score three times, while Manchester United have now conceded twice in each of their opening two games. That makes their attackers more appealing than their defenders for now, especially for FPL managers looking to avoid taking unnecessary risks at the back.

Bruno Fernandes FPL Appeal Grows as Rayan Cherki Emerges as a Short-Term Option

Bruno Fernandes made it even harder for FPL managers to leave him out after his huge performance against Ipswich. The Manchester United midfielder scored a hat-trick and provided an assist to finish with 23 points. Some managers using an early Wildcard may still want to use his money elsewhere, but his form means dropping him could be a big risk.

Rayan Cherki is another midfielder who caught the eye in Gameweek 2. After providing two assists in the opening game, the Manchester City midfielder scored twice against Crystal Palace. With Manchester City facing Coventry in Gameweek 3, Cherki looks like an appealing short-term option, although his place in the team could become less certain later on.

Newcastle United look promising, while Gibbs-White deserves more attention.

Newcastle United may have been underestimated after their difficult summer, but their 2-0 win away to Tottenham Hotspur suggests they could be worth keeping an eye on. Yoane Wissa scored on his debut, while Amar Dedic also provided an assist against Spurs. Their fixtures also improve from Gameweek 5, with matches against Hull City,Coventry City and Aston Villa in Gameweek 8, which could make their players more interesting for FPL managers

While Newcastle could become more popular later on, Morgan Gibbs-White is already an option who may be getting overlooked. The Nottingham Forest midfielder took a penalty against Liverpool despite Igor Jesus being on the pitch, suggesting he could be their first-choice penalty taker. That makes him an option worth keeping an eye on while many managers focus on other midfielders.
