On September 30, the flydubai Flight FZ1073 faced a cockpit attack when Omani co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar. The injured pilot bravely opened the cockpit door, allowing crew and passengers to subdue the co-pilot. The flight was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where al-Hammami was apprehended by authorities. Investigations have since been undertaken by several countries into al-Hammami’s background and possible extremist ties.
