Gal Gadot has spoken out against the DCU’s handling of Henry Cavill’s Superman and Wonder Woman 3. After playing the Amazon warrior in multiple DCEU films, Gadot officially confirmed her retirement from the role last week. After Warner Bros. handed the keys to DC films to James Gunn and Peter Safran, the duo promised to develop Wonder Woman 3 with Gadot.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Gadot spoke about her experience of letting go of the Wonder Woman role. When asked if there was a specific moment when DC Studios told her about cancelling Wonder Woman 3, the actress remarked that she was told the opposite. “They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you.’ The third [Wonder Woman].”
Gadot went on to comment on Henry Cavill’s exit from the role of Superman, a controversial move at the time. She also spoke about Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’ exit from making DC films.
“But I saw the way everybody else was handled, right?” she said. “The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty. [It] was not handled elegantly. I feel like we’re all adults, and it’s all good. And it’s not even about them. They are there, and they’re there to do what they believe in, and it’s all good. I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots and to have the character be so celebrated and be the vessel at that point in time.”
Gadot expressed that she hopes the next actress to pick up the mantle uses it “respectfully” and “enjoy the ride.”
