<p>If you were watching Adult Swim in 2014 late at night, you might've seen the bizarre opening titles of a fictional sitcom called "Too Many Cooks," a riff on those classic large-family situational comedies like "Eight is Enough," "Too Close for Comfort," or "Full House." The trippy opening sequence spiraled out to myriad television tropes, such as scifi space shows, Saturday morning cartoons, and eventually became a delirious metacommentary on montage as stalked by a deranged killer. The short managed to both comfort and terrify, perfectly blending the saccharine nature of old sitcoms with a foreboding sense of dread as the killer usurps the beautiful smiles and situations.<br>

Or maybe you recall the 2018 horror/action mindfuck MANDY, directed by Panos Cosmatos and starring Nicolas Cage as a man driven to bloody vengeance after his beloved is murdered by an evil gang of cultists. Rocking the conventional tone of a blood-soaked revenge fantasy is a retro commercial within the film seen on television depicting the Cheddar Goblin, a green beast of evil intent who vomits macaroni-and-cheese all over laughing children.<br>

What do these two nostalgia-soaked descents into madness have in common? Director Casper Kelly, who has now helmed his feature film debut with BUDDY, releasing in theaters August 28, 2026 after making waves at Sundance this January. The film stars Delaney Quinn (IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU) as Freddy, one of several smiling kids dancing along in the children's television show "It's Buddy!"<br>

Don’t get me wrong: I love a true crime docuseries or a grisly horror movie, but every now and then, I need something a little lighter to balance things out. <p>Hey friends! Barbarella here. Sometimes when a horror franchise goes on for ages, the stories tend to disintegrate. Since I generally require something with a good story, I have very low expectations going into INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER. However, the movie surprises me in how entertaining I find it. Starring Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea, and Lin Shaye, the movie hits theaters on Friday, August 21.<br>
Amelia Eve plays Gemma a young mother and dental hygienist who realizes she has an ability to travel into the Further, a realm where lost souls wander through a type of purgatory. Mind you, she’s not opting to go in; it just kind of happens to her. She also possesses a specific gift that makes her a target. The story makes full use of her occupation to ensure audiences get an eyeful of decayed teeth and other cringe-worthy dental-related visuals, all of which make me squirm in my seat and giggle internally at my squeamishness. <br>
While Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, no one needs to watch any of the other films in the franchise. OUT OF THE FURTHER works effectively as a stand-alone movie. It explains everything one needs to know to easily follow the story, while it employs all those standard horror trappings to get audiences to jump, cringe, tense up, or otherwise react to what’s onscreen.<br>
There’s even a bizarre use of grapefruit that proves completely absurd. Would the characters in the situation in which they find themselves take the time to put together</p>

<p>Hey friends! Barbarella here, and I have to say that I'm always excited when something I caught and really dug at a festival gets distribution. APPOFENIACS may not be the easiest title to say, but the film proves entertaining and timely. It presents the real life consequences of posting fake videos online, and it just gets crazier and crazier. While a lot of fun, the themes around it prove thought-provoking and disturbing in a world where fake videos become more and more convincing. I really enjoyed this movie, and if you're warped like me, you probably will too. <br>
Coming exclusively to theaters October 2, 2026, APPOFENIACS delivers the kind of bonkers horror that begs to be watched with an audience. Check out the trailer (but maybe only watch the first 54 seconds, as it gets into some pretty heavy spoiler territory after that).</p>

<p>I can’t lie: I’ve been dragging my feet on this one. By now you’ve probably already heard a great deal about Eli Roth’s THE ICE CREAM MAN if you were at all interested in the project, and most of it is bad. I’m here to tell you that a lot of what you’ve heard isn’t wrong. The AI, the tastelessness of some of the beats in the film, and the anachronistic tone and humor. I’m also here to tell you that if you watched the trailer below and thought you were getting into a thoughtful, considerate commentary of commercialization and the folly of sweets, your rose-colored glasses are doing you a tremendous disservice.<br>
