A self-appointed neighborhood code enforcer attempted to "fine" a non-member for having front door painted what they considering to be an affronting color. This perceived affront had already led to a confrontation between the two, but the neighbor refused to let the matter go.
Don't get me wrong, I love following a good rule. For example, if I go to a community pool and there are a bunch of rules listed in the entry way, you bet I'm going to follow each and every one to the letter. I might even feel a mild air of superiority for doing so and turn my nose up at those who aren't doing the same.
