Apple has finally lifted the cover off one of its worst-kept secrets: the iPhone Duo. The reveal marks the tech giant’s long-awaited entry into the foldable market, with new Apple CEO John Ternus hailing it as “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”
It was revealed on September 9 at Apple’s annual major launch event, taglined this year as ‘Surprise and Shine.’ Other products unveiled include the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the AirPods 5, the Apple Watch Ultra 4, and the Apple Watch Series 12.

The iPhone Duo uses a passport-style form factor, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Its frame uses a titanium construction last seen on the iPhone 16, and is available in two finishes: Star White and Night Sky. The outer display measures 5.4 inches, while the inner display measures 7.6 inches. Apple highlights that both screens use the same aspect ratio (assuming the unfolded phone is held in portrait orientation) to maintain proper content scaling and visual continuity.

In a departure from the glossy inner screens typically used by other foldables, Apple has opted for a textured matte finish inner screen. The company says this “premium nano-texture finish” reduces glare and reflections, in turn minimizing the visibility of the folding panel’s crease. The inner screen also features an under-display FaceTime camera—the first time Apple has deployed the technology in any of its products.

Interestingly, the iPhone Duo shares certain components with the iPhone 18 Pro. Both models are powered by the new A20 Pro chip, built using a new 2nm process that allows it to pack more processing power compared with the outgoing A19 Pro. The iPhone Duo also shares the iPhone 18 Pro’s 48MP main and ultrawide cameras, but not its telephoto lens.
Apple will also be shipping the iPhone Duo with iOS 27. Besides further iterations to the Liquid Glass UI and other smaller feature updates, Apple’s latest mobile operating system includes accommodations for the Duo’s foldable form factor. On the backend, Apple also provided developers with additional tools to make their apps responsive to the iPhone Duo’s variable screen layout.

Apple has announced it will be opening pre-orders for the iPhone Duo in select markets on October 16. Although the Philippines will not be part of this initial rollout, the company has confirmed its folding phone will be “coming soon” to the local market. Philippine pricing has been confirmed to start at P159,990 for the 256GB model, and tops out at P254,990 for the 2TB model.
