Planning a family getaway to Victoria Falls can be an unforgettable experience, but how much should you actually budget?

Victoria Falls is one of Southern Africa’s biggest tourist attractions, and the cost of a family trip can vary significantly depending on where you stay, how you travel and how many activities you choose.

To give families a better idea of what to expect, we have worked out the potential cost of a two-night trip for a family of four.

Accommodation costs in Victoria Falls

Accommodation is likely to be one of the biggest expenses on your Victoria Falls holiday.

There are options ranging from campsites and budget accommodation to luxury hotels and safari lodges.

For example, Explorers Village in Victoria Falls lists its 2026 standard rooms at US$110 (R1 756)per person sharing per night, including breakfast.

Serviced tents are available at US$34 (R543) per person sharing per night, although breakfast is not included.

For a family looking for something more comfortable, Pamarah Lodge lists its 2026 family room from US$323 (R5,157) per night, with the room able to accommodate up to five people.

At the luxury end, prices rise considerably.

The Victoria Falls Hotel lists rooms from several hundred dollars per night, while its more expensive suites can cost more than US$1 000 (R15 960) per night.

For this calculation, a family could budget around US$323–US$440 (R5 157- R7 025) per night for comfortable accommodation, depending on the property and room arrangement.

That puts two nights at roughly US$646–US$880 (about R10 300–R14 000).

How much does it cost to see Victoria Falls?

The Falls themselves can be surprisingly affordable for Zimbabwean families.

The 2026 entrance fee on the Zimbabwean side is listed at US$7 (R112) for Zimbabweans, while SADC visitors pay US$35 (R558.44) and international visitors pay US$58 (R926) per person. Proof of citizenship or residency is required to qualify for the lower rates.

This makes nationality and residency an important factor when calculating the cost of the trip.

For example, four Zimbabwean visitors would pay US$28 at the US$7 local rate, while four SADC visitors would pay US$140 at the regional rate.

An international family of four would pay US$232 at the international adult rate, before considering any child-specific rates that may apply.

What about Victoria Falls activities?

This is where a Victoria Falls holiday can become considerably more expensive.

Families can choose from activities such as Zambezi sunset cruises, game drives, helicopter flights, river activities and guided tours.

A 2026 Victoria Falls activity guide lists a range of experiences, with some packages costing several hundred dollars per person.

A sunset cruise is one of the more popular options. For example, a 2026 activity brochure lists the Ra-Ikane Luxury Sunset Cruise at US$94 (R1 501) per person.

That means a family of four could spend US$376 (R6 003) on that one activity alone.

The good news is that families do not need to book expensive activities to enjoy Victoria Falls.

Simply visiting the rainforest, walking around the town and spending time around the Zambezi can make up a large part of the experience.

Food costs

Food will depend heavily on where the family chooses to eat.

Families staying at accommodation that includes breakfast can reduce their daily spending. Explorers Village, for example, includes breakfast in its standard room rate.

For a family of four, a reasonable budget could be US$60–US$100 (R958–R1 956) per day for meals if they mix restaurant meals with cheaper options.

Over two days, that would work out to approximately US$120–US$200 (R1 914–R3 190).

Families choosing high-end restaurants and hotel dining should expect to spend considerably more.

So, how much should a family budget?

For a two-night Victoria Falls getaway, a family of four could budget approximately:

The calculation does not include transport to Victoria Falls, which could significantly change the final bill depending on whether the family drives, takes a bus or flies.

At an exchange rate of roughly R16 to US$1, the estimated total works out to approximately R12,700–R23,700.

The rand-dollar rate fluctuates, so the final rand cost will vary.

For Zimbabwean families, the trip can therefore be made considerably cheaper by choosing budget accommodation, limiting paid activities and taking advantage of the lower local entrance fee.

For families travelling from elsewhere in the SADC region, the Falls remain relatively accessible, but the US$35 regional entrance fee per visitor needs to be factored into the budget.

Ultimately, Victoria Falls does not have to be a luxury holiday.

With careful planning, families can experience one of Africa’s most spectacular destinations without spending thousands of dollars on accommodation and activities.
