I've never rescued a cat from a typhoon, as this one kind person below did, but I know what it's like to hope that an owner would give up their cat so they can have a better future elsewhere. When I adopted my cat I was a student, living in a flatshare. One of my roommates already had a cat called Fetto (originally Fettuccine, but the name got shorter as he got bigger). We had him in the apartment since he was a kitten, saved from the streets. Officially, he belonged to one roommate, but he loved another much more - and that was mainly because of how his "actual" roommate owner treated him.
I won't detail too much because it seems demeaning to the cat, in some way. I love Fetto, he was such a great companion to live with for so many years, even though he wasn't mine. But the fact that the cat wasn't mine is what made me horrified at what an "actual" owner can make their cat go through. And that owner was my roommate - so it wasn't just close to home, it was all happening in my home. What I can tell, though, is that his actions made Fetto afraid of him, his own legal owner. My other roommate and I tried time and time again to talk to our cat-owning roommate, to help him change his ways with the cat, but to no avail. Things always reverted to what they were. It was such a deadlock situation.
At the end of a 3-year shared living arrangement, we all finished our degrees and planned out adult life. My other roommate and I moved to a different flatshare together, but we were afraid for Fetto. We knew we couldn't leave the cat living like that. We sat him down and practically said, "The cat comes with us." Just in a nicer, yet firm way. We knew Fatto needed a new beginning in a new place, without the person who caused him fear and apprehension. We explained ourselves, yet again, naming the things the cat shouldn't have gone through, and how we thought he should move in with us. And to our surprise… he agreed. Fetto lived with my other roommate for many more years of happiness and calm.
This is the fate I hope to hear this typhoon kitty below gets, her happy ending.
