Cops rolled out the welcome mat for Indian gangster Karamveer Singh upon his arrival at New Delhi’s IGI Airport on Monday.
The closer-than-this associate of transnational crime kingpin and fellow Indian Lawrence Bishnoi was taken into custody following his deportation from Canada by the Anti-Gangster Task Force.
FBI claims Singh ordered hit on musician
FBI documents link the 40-year-old arch-criminal to the extortion of Punjabi singers, and accuse him of ordering a 2024 shooting and arson attack at the Victoria home of popular musician AP Dhillon.
According to Indian Voice Online , Singh provided logistical support for the Bishnoi Group, along with a hideout for the master criminal’s younger brother, Anmol Bishnoi, in the U.S. He had also been wanted on a slew of charges in India.
The accused has a long, violent criminal history involving murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, Arms Act offences and other criminal activities. Punjab Police said the investigation continues into the wide-ranging Bishnoi network.
In Canada, the Immigration and Refugee Board was ready, willing and able to take the word of his two sisters that Karamveer Singh was A-OK. So, let’s spring him while the deportation fight unfolds.
Bishnoi Gang claims 5,000 ‘soldiers’ here
But that wasn’t good enough for a federal judge and Singh was detained in custody until he was given the boot last week.
The Bishnoi Gang are listed as a terrorist entity in Canada. In documents obtained by CBC News and published on Wednesday, a letter from the gang claimed they had 5,000 “soldiers” and that Canada didn’t have the guts to do anything about it.
Singh had been ordered released on June 10 with conditions that included a $100,000 cash bond, but the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) refused the payment from Singh’s brother-in-law. CBSA was concerned about the source of the money, and he remained in custody.
In India, Singh faces a trial for the 2012 murder of a Punjabi political figure.
At the hearing, the feds provided FBI surveillance photos of Singh at a California home with Bishnoi’s brother. Anmol Bishnoi was eventually deported from the U.S. and is back in India.
Government lawyer Espejo Clarke said of Singh’s bid for bail: “No amount of money would be sufficient if this issue is not considered properly by the court.”
IRB decision ‘unreasonable, unintelligible’
The lawyer slammed the IRB decision to release the gangster as “unreasonable, unintelligible and unjustified based on the record.”
Anmol Bishnoi faces multiple criminal charges in India related to extortion and terrorism.
Singh had earlier rolled the dice while on the run from the murder charge by slipping into the U.S. via Mexico. He was turned down for asylum.
The FBI claimed that crime boss Lawrence Bishnoi gave him “the responsibility to care for his brother, Anmol Bishnoi.” In the interim, the G-Men claimed Singh financed a Canadian jewelry business. It has the same address as the one where his family members work.
As the U.S. issued an exclusion order, Singh illegally crossed into Canada in January 2025. He was found ineligible to make a refugee claim and was ordered deported. He also applied to become a permanent resident via his wife.
He has denied the multitude of allegations against him and claims he is the victim of a corrupt Indian justice system and politics.
Terrorizing South Asian communities
The Bishnoi Gang began emerging in Canada over the past decade and cops say the group is involved in drug trafficking, murder-for-hire and extortion schemes that preyed upon the South Asian diaspora.
After the Liberals opened the floodgates, thousands of unvetted so-called “temporary” workers and “students” entered the country. Bishnoi exploited the gaping holes.
