The jabuticaba is an edible, grape-like purple fruit that grows directly on the trunk and branches of the Brazilian Grapetree (Plinia cauliflora), a phenomenon known as cauliflory. Other fruits that share this unique growth pattern include papaya, cluster figs, jackfruit and cacao.
Jabuticaba fruit has a tough, tart skin and sweet, gelatinous white pulp. It is rarely exported because it spoils within days of picking.
