During WW2 many Japanese soldiers would commit acts of cannibalism against allied soldiers, POWs, and civilians. This was often due to their poor supply situation however there were instances of them doing this when they weren’t even hungry. Instances of this were particularly common during the Kokoda Track Campaign where advancing allied forces would find remains of their fallen comrades disfigured in such a way as to confirm acts of cannibalism.
